It is not only tiring but also very humbling...
Once in a while, i cast my eyes in the South-American direction: Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay.
I wrote a post recently: go here
There always seem to be a surprise waiting for me.
Most of the time, some old Brevetti Robbiati Model A coffee machines.
Some very strange like this one.
The following is a first.
A strange first.
An Hungarian machine.
With a "Szabadalom" badge. (Szabadalom means "Patent" in Magyar)
(I only know 1 other machine with this badge)
A then, a Water bakelite knob from a Industria Argentina machine (Hogar Cabiró, J.G.F., Leal, Very Good).
Strange first.
I wish the machine could talk... but it is as silent as a big lump of aluminium.
Speculation? What for?

I am sometimes thinking that...
I am sometimes thinking that this Blog is just documenting my lack of knowledge.
Surprises keep proving my deficits.
It is tiring.

Living the dream
Drinking coffee with a dear friend, eating a cake, and wondering about (our similarity of) being the only ones (each in its field) to have come up with a unique and simple idea (such as - for myself -research the coffee makers i like).
Living the dream.
I just got this home:
Do you know what this is?
ok, i give you a clue: it makes coffee.

Model Capuccino - A. & M.G. SASSOON - London, UK
Perfect coffee and now capuccino milk as well!
TO MAKE PERFECT ESPRESSO COFFEE
IS SIMPLICITY ITSELF!
IS SIMPLICITY ITSELF!
1. Fill the jug with hot or cold water, unscrew the black filter cap, pour the water into the body of the machine and screw the black filler cap on again tightly (The maximum will hold one jugful).
2. Remove the filter and fill it with coffee of a fine or fine to medium grind according to taste. Never use pulverised or powdered coffee. If you are making the maximum amount of coffee the filter should be filled with coffee to just below its tap. Gently shake or tap the filter to level the coffee and press down slightly. Replace the filter in the container and lock in place by a half turn so that the filter handle is the ### pointing outwards.
Now place the coffee maker on an electric plate, gas ring or any other form of heater. If a gas or cooker is used prevent the flame from showing round the base of the boiler.
3. Within a few minuted the coffee will start to pour into the jug with a gurgling sound. Wait for the flow to stop and then, if no capuccino milk is required, turn of the heat.
The Atomic coffee maker is completely safe and even if left on a fierce heat with no water in it at all, no harm can be done.
TO MAKE COFFEE CAPUCCINO
Pour some milk into another jug. See that the jug is dry, (the presence of water will prevent the milk from frothing).
As soon as the flow of coffee has stopped place the jug of milk under the capuccino tube so that the nozzle is well below the surface of the milk.
Turn on the red knob about half to one turn and move the jug up and down until the milk is of the desired frothiness. If extra forthiness is required turn the knob backwards and forwards varying the supply of dry steam. Do not let the milk boil. If it boils it will not froth. A little practice will be soon ensure perfect capuccino milk each time. The milk may be heated to any desired temperature by regulating the time the capuccino tube is in the milk.
If more capuccino milk is required add fresh cold unboiled milk and start again.
The capuccino tube may be used to heat other liquids as well as milk in exactly the same way but it is ideal for milk because it is almost instantaneous. No washing of a milk saucepan us required and no skin is formed on the milk.

TO ASSEMBLE THE MACHINE
I suppose the following:
You belong to the Millions of people who wake up every day NOT thinking how Aubrey & Marion Gay Sassoon managed to pack their Capuccino machine in the Box (here).
Am i right?
However, they did managed to.
And this is how:
And this is how:
It was delivered in 2 pieces!!!!!
The main Body on one side,
The Capuccino tube and valve on the other.
The capuccino tube and valve (red knob) assembly is detached for packing.
It is essential that this assembly is screwed tightly into its threaded hole at the top of the main body before attempting to make coffee. Once in place do not remove.
Another business would have explained it that way:
Cheers!

S.T.E.M.A.C. stamp on a leaflet
My hobby is a double pleasure.
On one side,
I can plan my research and breathe the dust of old documents, which is really enjoyable...
& on the other side,
I never know what can appear around the corner, and i can let myself be surprised.
This pleasure can grow exponentially.
For example, when the owner of a leaflet sends me a scan of a business stamp
i had never seen before.
Not only she is the owner, but she is the "first owner".
And this "first owner" who is kind enough to send me a scan so i can share it with you,
The coffee maker was bought in 1984
in ByDesign in Beverly Center in Los Angeles, U.S.A.
... the never ending story.

Marta Stern's patent AU110,239
In April 2012, i mentioned Marta Stern's emigration to Australia.
Well, guess what!!!
I just had the idea today to put her name in the search box.
What did i find?
The patent registration for the cooking appliance sold under the name "Grillux".
For more information, read the many posts i made in June 2012.
Can there be an Australian "Bambi" ?
When you'll visit Annie & Rob Webber's collection, you probably will stop in front of these windows and recognise some of the machines i have been researching on for a little while now.
You might even notice the "Mandarin" tea maker i already mentioned here
Maybe, your heart will beat faster like mine when you see this:
You will remember reading about Mr. Stern patent registration, and his (ex-) wife's emigration to Australia here.
Maybe, in a moment of mental confusion, you will ask yourself this stupid question:
Can there be an Australian "Bambi"?
