This Golden Compass Prize is the idea of the architect Gio Ponti, Cesare Brustrio (Vice-director General of La Rinascente, a department store in Milan) and Augusto Morello, an art critic who organized the very successful exhibition "Aethetics of the product" in 1953 in La Rinascente.
The Jury's aim was to promote and award the "aesthetic quality and technical and functional characteristics of industrial products".
Aldo Basseti, Cesare Brustio, Gio Ponti, Alberto Rosseli, Marco Zanusso received 5700 objects from 470 businesses.
One of these businesses was Brevetti Robbiati of Novate Milanese.
Their object: an aluminum coffee machine trademarked "Atomic".
I am very excited to present you these cuts from the first catalogue of the Compasso d'oro:
It didn't win the Compasso d'oro but the hearts of a lot of collectors.
On the 7th floor of La Rinascente, there is an amazing restaurant Il Bar.... just what we needed after we visited the roof of the Duomo!!!
It has a fantastic view on the cathedral!
I had Cous Cous and a glass of Morellino di Scansano (a red wine from Tuscany).
... no i didn't have an espresso there...
After visiting the design supermarket, we went to Zucca!
La Vita è bella!
